Damian Collins MP, who is the chair of this Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport committee,” says hearings will be held which will also examine”the function of the EFL and the FA in protecting the long-term pursuits of nightclubs”.
In a statement, Collins called for fit and proper individual’s tests to be strengthened, for soccer’s governing bodies to have the ability to become involved before when penis clubs encounter financial difficulties and for the EFL to locate a means to reinstate Bury into the Football League for next season.
“The conclusion by the English Football League (EFL) to reestablish Bury football club is a tragedy for many who follow the group in addition to the wider community it serves. It also marks a failure of soccer governance,” Collins said in a statement.
“The current owners and owners test is obviously insufficient to protect the long-term pursuits of clubs and retain poor owners and owners from this game.
“The soccer authorities need more powers to intervene before when clubs get into financial troubles, and certainly long before they reach the edge of the abyss.”
He added:”I’d ask that even at this late stage that the EFL considers any sensible suggestion that could support Bury’s status as a Football League club, such as whether they could play next year in League Two, under new ownership.
“The select committee considers that the problems that have affected Bury signify a wider and increasing problem within the Football League. We have observed clubs in the past several years along with similar crises at Bolton.
“The committee has therefore agreed that we will hold hearings in the autumn to take evidence concerning the crisis at Bury, and the function of the EFL and the FA in safeguarding the long-term pursuits of nightclubs. The committee may also inquire to what needs to be done in order to strengthen soccer governance rules in this regard.”
