He finds her to be respectable, mature, cultured, and self-assured. Therefore, the younger man will most often be the one pursuing, not generally the other way around.

Fred’s first older-woman experience occurred when he was 21 years old and Gretchen was 37. They lived together for two years. They are both still very close and see each other regularly.

It’s important that you don’t do this, as it robs everyone of his or her time. Plus, it’s never good to play with someone’s heart. It’s important to realize that dating older women is not something that should be seen as trendy.

They haven’t been around the block — they own the block. As an older woman dating, it’s likely that you’ll encounter people who have been divorced, lost a partner, suffered long-term illness, and/or have grown-up children – and you yourself may fall into the same categories. Both of you have lived your own lives, completely independent of one another.

Not only did they have a tremendous friendship as the basis of their relationship, but an extraordinary sex life as well. Recently, this woman underwent major surgery and it was her ex-boyfriend Fred, not the woman’s current older boyfriend, who was by her side. Gretchen, now 44, was involved with a man of 51 and he was simply too busy with work and personal commitments to be available when she really needed him. It was Fred who visited her on a regular basis and saw to it that she had what she needed during her recuperation.

I was planning to move there a long time before I met my friend in Barcelona. Each time I went to Spain, I would have a deeper experience. I never went on a tour group, but people always seemed to come forward when I needed help.

By the age of 40, her ability to get pregnant is severely compromised, with menopause starting between the ages of 45 and 50. If you want to have a family someday, this is something to consider. Family and friends may not approve. There is still all kinds of stigma around dating older women.

Tip for older women dating

That’s because the messages we grew up with about what a woman is supposed to do and say can hinder our ability to find the person we’re searching for. With that in mind, I spoke to three women over the age of 70 to hear about the first time they fell in love, the ways love transforms over time, and their thoughts about all things romance-related today.

Whatever your children think (and the chances are they’ll be on board!) it’s important to be honest with them early on in the process. The same goes for any particularly close friends or family members.
