Jack Nowell and mako Vunipola will miss England’s first two matches coach Eddie Jones has verified.
England prop Vunipola suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury during a month win over Ireland, while Nowell is still currently stepping up his comeback from an ankle injury.
Neither guy featured in the 37-0 pummelling of Italy of England on Friday night, and after that the St James’ Park battle, Jones admitted the pair will play no part in England’s first two World Cup matches from Tonga and USA .
Asked if the pair could be fit for England’s opener, Jones explained:”Mako definitely will not function but we feel he might possibly be perfect for game three or match four at the pool phase.
“Jack Nowell has taken the past couple of days off so we have had to carry him back a bit. He should be correct similar to Mako. Everybody else is in full training.”
