England coach Eddie Jones has warned that the typhoon might have a major disruption on the World Cup in Japan, but says he’s contingency plans in place to deal with this.
Typhoon Faxai moved shore over the Pacific towards Japan on Saturday, threatening to make landfall near Tokyo the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
England are expected to depart for Japan on Sunday along with also the season typhoon – packing winds up to 180kph – is anticipated to reach areas of the Kanto area between Sunday and early Monday.
Tournament organisers have planned for the chance of having to relocate groups from their foundations or perhaps to move matches to different places.
The stadiums to England’s first two matches, against Tonga at Sapporo and the usa at Kobe, have roofs and Jones claims that the group will train indoors on synthetic turf if necessary.
“It’s likely to influence the World Cup, there’s little doubt about it,” Jones said following his negative 37-0 win over Italy in England’s final warm-up match in Newcastle.
“You have just got to ride with it, be adaptable and work out how you can manage the circumstance.
“After the typhoon comes, you simply can not go outside. It is basically a lock-down. It may vary between being very violent to mild.
“The problem is you can not go outdoors but we have got thoughts of what we do whether a typhoon ceased us coaching outdoors. We’ll instruct on artificial turf indoors.”
Jones is preparing for a marked change in states, after playing with four warm-up matches on pitches.
Jones, with a mom that is Japanese-American and is married to Hiroko Jones, a Japanese girl he met while teaching at Sydney, is familiar with the perils, with lived for long periods in Japan.
He twice coached club clubs in Japan prior to being appointed in 2012.
