Joe Root has to consider giving the England captaincy to let him regain his form as stated by former Test batsman Rob Key.
Root was outside for a duck for the third time in as many games until Australia retained the Ashes by simply taking a 2-1 series lead with a success in the first Test at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Despite having managed England’s initial failure to acquire a house Ashes series since 2001, Root said that he”definitely” stays the ideal person to lead the side forward, starting with the fifth and final Test at the Oval on Thursday.
“At some point, Joe Root has got to work out if the captaincy affects his game,” Vital told Sky Sports News. “Forget both sides and everything else. ‘Can I be successful and play as also a captain and a batsman as I’ve been before?’
“I believe his ordinary before he was 50 and it’s since dropped to 40. That is exactly what he must reply, although that might be because of conditions – and only he can answer this.
“Whenever you request any sportsperson that question about if they wish to continue, they are always likely to say’yes’ right away, otherwise it is like giving up – and sportspeople do not like giving up. But at a certain point, Joe Root will have to sit and really think about if he wants to continue and if he could be the batsman he wishes to become as a priest.”
Root has averaged 30.87 runs throughout the show, a figure considerably below his career mark of 48.03, although the astonishing form of Australia’s Steve Smith has emphasised the England captain’s battles.
The weakness of England’s top-order batting forced Root to advertise himself a place out of his preferred No. 4 place at the start of the series, which makes him exposed to a new ball at the palms of Australia’s highly impressive fast bowling lineup.
Root’s former England team-mate Jonathan Trott considers that there are a shortage of viable alternatives to replace the 28-year-old, and that accountability for the defeat has to be shared.
“I would like to see him stay in the role,” Trott told Sky Sports News. “I think there is no better option from the England side to be captain. I believe he is a pure choice.
“I think he has looked really good occasionally within this collection. He has some great deliveries and he will be hurting a little bit with regards to not having the ability to perform the job and get the ones Ashes back, but it is a team effort – it’s not only down to the captain when he moves out there with this bat. It’s up to everyone.
“I presume he is the ideal man for the job. If he wants to continue to achieve this, I had definitely him back.”
