Ger Lyons believes that the choice after this month, to adhere to six furlongs with Siskin in the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket will be the one because of his unbeaten colt.
Lyons confessed the Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes was something to contemplate, but decided to stick to his guns in the view that six furlongs is the optimum space for Siskin race.
The Middle Park gives the opportunity to choose his 100 per cent record to five and follow his Group One victory at the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes up to Siskin.
“It was my call,” the County Meath handler told journaling TV.
“He did a snap over seven – he has run four times and won four occasions all over six, such as a Group One, and for me he’s undoubtedly the top over six in the moment.
“I said to Colin (Keane), I believe it was a week past Saturday, we had breeze him over seven. He worked nicely, but it was very clear to me going seven was not the ideal thing to do. Why go at this time when he is undoubtedly the best around in the six.
“If there was not the Middle Park in 2 weeks’ time I would have turned up (from the National Stakes). We were not running scared of anybody. There’s an option in two weeks’ time plus it is a Group One.
“I must put my horse where he can win his race.
“I’m not saying that he could not have won (the National Stakes). My best target was that the Middle Park.
“I’d really like to run from the Vincent O’Brien (National Stakes). It’s here on my own door step, however, the target is that the Middle Park and when we breezed him I said,’right my mind is made up’.
“I made one phone call to say in my view this horse should proceed to the Middle Park. ‘Proper – perfect, very decent fortune’. I believed that was simple.
“As we speak we’re on target for the Middle Park. It’s a very long way, a fortnight is a long time to get a racehorse, however, touch wood this horse has not let us down and I’m awaiting Newmarket.”
Lyons is at taking at Newmarket, led by the remarkable Mums Tipple on strong resistance excited.
“He’s rated greater than mine, but we’ve got a Group One in the bag and deliver it around,” he said.
